here's a great site for finding the too-often uncredited artists of frequently beautiful science fiction and fantasy novel cover paintings: internet speculative fiction database.

for example: this cover painting, which it turns out was done by Kinuko Craft (but isn't featured on her website or galleries); also, you can see all the other covers they have for different editions.
i also found that this painting, which graced the cover of what a brief skimming suggests is a pretty forgettable collection of text upon which i happened, is by Bob Pepper, who did a bunch of other nice cover art.

if you're not aware already, allow me please to inform you of the occurrence of a travelling exhibition of the works and related materials of one Theodor Seuss Geisel which has/is/shall be featured in various cities in the united states. you may check the exhibition list to see if any are in a location you might be able to reach in time. personally, I'm about 90 miles from san deigo which seems to be hosting the grandest exhibition of all, and can be read about here.

if you've never seen Dr. Seuss's "secret" art you are really missing out. seriously. for instance, here are a few of my favorites:
i dreamed i was a doorman at the hotel del Coronado
every girl should have a unicorn
Venetian Cat Singing Oh Solo Meow
and cat detective in the wrong part of town.
there are more. also, he made many sculptures which are also wonderful.

Update: i visited the exhibit and surrounding museum complex over the weekend. here is a photo recap of it, and these are some doodles done on the pad of cat in the hat stationary i bought at the little shop at the museum.
